Marketing Content Internship

For over 60 years, Dallas Market Center (DMC) has helped set the trends that define our lives and style.  A private, wholesale marketplace featuring apparel, gift and home goods, DMC is where your favorite retailers (from Anthropologie to Whole Foods to Dillard's) find their products.

DMC is looking for an intern who is interested in gaining broad experience in content marketing disciplines, including copy writing, collateral, events, trends, market research, public relations, social media, and trade shows.  This unpaid internship (10-15 hours/week) will last approximately 12 weeks (Sep-Nov) during the fall 2017 semester.

  • Link your classroom learning to real world experiences
  • Create and contribute to projects that will build your portfolio
  • Train with and/or shadow someone from these specialties: events, social media, visuals, PR web design and analytics, and multi-media
  • Gain valuable experience in HubSpot's inbound marketing program
  • Access Fashion Snoops trend reports and webcasts on seasonal style narratives and trend stories
  • Participate in HR training to learn about workplace safety, communication, privacy and anti-discrimination
  • Learn about and gain production experience for DMC's in-house magazine, Source
  • Access dozens of industry publications, including AdWeek, Crain's, and HomeWorld Business
  • Participate in exhibitor and industry meetings to gain deeper knowledge of retail and wholesale sectors
  • Attend and contribute to team meetings to see process of developing a project from conception to execution
  • Receive both informal and formal supervisor feedback to help hone your professional skills
  • Meet bi-monthly with personal mentor for guidance on the internship and personal development
  • Help shape the intern program for future participants

Learning Objectives *

  • Gain a 360 degree view of a savvy marketing department and how its many disciplines work in tandem to drive market attendance, leasing, and customer loyalty
  • Gain experience in HubSpot to understand how inbound marketing is disrupting traditional tactics
  • Learn DMC's writing style guidelines and produce content accordingly (i.e. blog, social media, web, collateral, etc.)
  • Learn to conduct research and develop blog content ideas relevant to industry personas
  • Deepen understanding of how PR works with publications by assisting in PR and media correspondence
  • Develop knowledge in creating consistent brand messaging and voice across various communications

Responsibilities *

  • Assist in PR and media correspondence
  • Engage in social media community management
  • Increase relationships and engagement with bloggers and industry influencers
  • Secure and organize product images for use in DMC email and social campaigns


  • Current enrollment as a junior or senior studying marketing, journalism, advertising or related fields
  • Ability to sustain an unpaid internship for the fall 2017 semester
  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Solid understanding of marketing techniques including familiarity with social media strategies and platforms
  • Passion for the marketing industry and its best practices
  • Strong writing skills
  • Must be motivated, organized, and possess good communication skills
  • Ability to take direction and absorb information quickly
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Previous internship or related experience in marketing or communications preferred
  • Experience with content creation preferred
