Dallas Market Center Announces The Interior Home & Design Center

--Bold new plan for 220,000 s.f. interior design marketplace opening Fall 2016--

DALLAS – April 13, 2016 – Dallas Market Center, the largest open-daily interior design resource in the country, has announced The Interior Home & Design Center, a multi-million dollar project creating a 220,000 square foot marketplace serving interior designers and retailers. The massive project, redeveloping the first floor of the International Trade Plaza building, will create more new space for luxury home décor showrooms than in more than 40 years. The Interior Home & Design Center is set to begin construction in the summer and to open in fall 2016.

Pre-leasing is already underway for The Interior Home & Design Center with a focus on selecting a curated collection of manufacturers and sales rep agencies not already in Dallas or who will expand their Dallas Market Center presence significantly. These companies will be open for daily business to an active interior design community as well as serve the seasonal markets drawing tens of thousands of loyal retailers from all 50 states and more than 40 countries. Companies currently located on the first floor of the former International Trade Plaza will be relocated to other spaces in the market center.

“As our interior design traffic continues to increase, the demand for space to access customers year-round is at a premium,” said Cindy Morris, president and CEO of Dallas Market Center. “No other marketplace is serving the design traffic like Dallas, therefore we are excited to announce the largest home décor project in four decades. This new space will be a fine complement to the existing design resources in the World Trade Center.”

The mid-century building will undergo extensive exterior and interior upgrades that will stay true to the building’s iconic style while creating a more efficient and stylish modern environment. “Our design plans include opening up the space, using an abundance of natural light as well as both new and existing design elements consistent with the organic, clean simplicity of the space,” said Paul T. Dickel, lead architect for the project. “The building will become a visually stunning and a welcoming environment for the interior design community.”

In addition to custom showrooms for dozens of new companies, the building will feature new, large front windows and exterior doors opening directly to hundreds of front door parking spaces; an extended front porte cochère with valet parking; and a new reception and registration area leading to wide hallways.

Dallas Market Center is the largest and most successful open-daily design center in the U.S. More interior designers visit Dallas Market Center, and more showrooms are open daily in Dallas, than any other market center or design center. These showrooms currently serve thousands of visitors each month from a discerning design community actively seeking resources for residential and commercial projects across Mid-America and Latin America. In addition, Dallas Market Center hosts a full calendar of design events throughout the year in partnership with organizations including ASID (American Society of Interior Design), TAID (Texas Association of Interior Design), and the Interior Design Society, which held their national conference at Dallas Market Center in April 2016.

Dallas has long been a center of interior design, beginning in the 1950’s with showroom buildings throughout the market center and design district neighborhoods developed by Trammell Crow. But currently, the city is leading a regional building boom as more homeowners and more businesses move to a part of the country with lower business costs and higher opportunities for success. According to the US Census Bureau, more than 400,000 people moved to the four major Texas metro areas last year. Subsequently, Dallas Market Center is serving more retail and interior design customers. As demand rises, Dallas Market Center is offering home décor companies custom showroom space with built-in loyal customer traffic and unmatched convenience at a highly competitive rate.
