Lightovation Lounge Returns to KBIS
—To feature education, experts, and networking courtesy of the largest lighting marketplace in North America and the American Lighting Association—
DALLAS – December 5, 2019 – Dallas Market Center, the home of Lightovation—Dallas International Lighting Show, announces the return of the Lightovation Lounge during the 2020 Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS), January 21-23 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The lounge will be located at South Hall #S113.
The popular hub for lighting information and education returns as part of the new KBIS Think section and will feature three days of seminars by nationally-recognized industry leaders. Representatives will also be on hand from the American Lighting Association and Dallas Market Center, host of the twice annual Lightovation trade event which welcomes showrooms from across the U.S. and internationally. The Lounge will also serve as a distribution point for media partner Furniture Lighting & Decor magazine.
Dallas Market Center and National Kitchen and Bath Association have a history of providing the lighting industry invaluable learning opportunities including NKBA-accredited seminars in Dallas at The SMART Center, a lighting seminar, meeting, event and lounge space. The next edition of Lightovation takes place January 8-12, 2020 at Dallas Market Center, allowing lighting and trade professionals the opportunity to attend both Lightovation and KBIS.

Tuesday, January 21, 2020
10:00 am: “Fundamentals of LED Lighting” presented by Joe Rey-Barreau, AIA, IES, University of Kentucky College of Design
This one-hour seminar will cover the fundamentals of LED lighting from its beginnings to its most advanced current applications in all aspects of our lives. The focus of the discussion will be on the design, use and application of LED lighting in residential spaces, answering: How does and LED produce light? What are the benefits of LED lighting? What are the drawbacks? How can LED be dimmed and controlled effectively? What are current trends and future directions of LED lighting?
1:00 pm: “Design Guidelines for Kitchen Lighting” presented by Joe Rey-Barreau
The focus of this one-hour seminar will be on the fundamentals of kitchen lighting, with special emphasis on the use and application of LED lighting products and smart controls devices. We will discuss the importance of how to design with layers in a kitchen environment, and how to use specific techniques and applications of recessed lighting, under-cabinet lighting, cove lighting, toe kick lighting and decorative LED products. All of this will be discussed in the context of how tunable LED lighting can be applied in a kitchen for the most effective benefits of function, comfort and aesthetics.
3:30 pm: “State of the Smart Home Panel” moderated by Joe Rey-Barreau and featuring Julie Jacobson, CE Pro magazine; Scott Koehler, Dream Kitchen Builders; and Adam Kuhn, Samsung
63 million American homes will be considered “smart” by 2022 and lighting will continue to be a key element in this evolution, from smart bulbs and switches to connected systems offering new levels of convenience and control. In this 90-minute session, our panel of experts will discuss the latest smart home trends and how they will shape the category moving forward.

10:00 am: “Fundamentals of Residential Lighting” presented by Joe Rey-Barreau
In this one-hour seminar we will discuss the fundamentals of all aspects of residential lighting design, including the proper use and application of recessed, track, decorative, specialty lighting, and lighting controls. The discussion will include specific design guidelines and recommendations for all spaces in the home, including specific information on the use of lighting layers as a key element in creating comfortable, functional and visually pleasing environments.

The focus of this one-hour seminar will be on the fundamentals of bath lighting, with special emphasis on the use and application of LED lighting products and smart control devices. We will discuss the importance of how to design with layers in a bath environment, and how to use specific techniques and applications of recessed lighting, task lighting, toe kick lighting and decorative LED products. All of this will be discussed in the context of how tunable LED lighting can be applied in a bath for the most effective benefits of function, comfort and aesthetics.
3:30 pm: “Healthy Homes: Lighting, Biophilia and Wellness Opportunities” presented by Julie Jacobson
People spend almost all of their time indoors, yet evolution has wired us to live life optimally outside. This 90-minute session will explain the concept of biophilia and its role in human health and wellness. Learn how technology can be used to simulate nature and deliver positive impact, including human-centric lighting, artificial windows and skylights, climate control, indoor air quality, water purification, and audio/visual renderings.

10:00 am: “Specialty and Accent LED Applications for Kitchens and Baths” presented by Joe Rey-Barreau
This one-hour seminar will provide an overview of the exciting new products and concepts in the category of LED specialty and accent lighting systems. Until recently, specialty accent lighting consisted primarily of low voltage systems and other specialized lighting equipment using low voltage incandescent and halogen light sources. However, LED light sources are quickly becoming the primary products used in specialty accent applications, and they can quickly transform static kitchen and bath spaces into highly dynamic environments that enhance the everyday user experience.
